What is Counselling? Why and when is it needed? What can I expect?
Life has ups and downs. Generally people manage but what do you do when things seem so hard to cope with, or days are too dark to see any light at the end of the tunnel?
Counselling and hypno-psychotherapy provides you with a safe, supportive, non judgemental, confidential environment where you can work through the challenges, pain or grief, and find your direction, solutions and motivation to live your life fully again...
It can assist you to make positive changes, or may help you accept difficult situations, becoming more resilient. It is not an information service but aims to help you develop your strengths, working through your feelings and thought processes. Counselling and psychotherapy are 'umbrella' terms that cover a range of talk therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term, helping them to bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing. It is generally accepted that counselling deals with present day issues, while Psychotherapy with past issues, yet past and present often overlap, and so counselling and psychotherapy intersect. A Hypno-Psychotherapist is specially trained to help people with their problems and issues, utilising hypnosis.

Counselling, psychotherapy and hypno-psychotherapy can take place as 'one-to-one', group, family or couple sessions and are usually 50 - 60 minutes in duration. There are in excess of 400 types of talk therapies; therefore, therapists will have diverse training and different ways of working with clients, yet all aim to support the client to achieve their full potential.

Counsellors, psychotherapists and hypno-psychotherapists, once qualified, work towards accreditation with Accrediting Assocications, therefore Accredited Therapists will have more practical experience. All are expected to continue attending courses and seminars updating and upgrading their skills. Most importantly, for you, counsellors, psychotherapists and hypno-psychotherapists will all work within strict, ethical guidelines set down by their Accrediting Association. It is important to rememeber that your relationship with the therapist is what is important. You should feel comfortable and at ease with the therapist you choose, feel able to ask or clarify any queries you have, and , in doing so, feel heard, understood and your questions answered clearly. It is ok to change from one to another if you feel the therapy or therapist is not suiting you.

Hypnotherapy offers effective resoltution for many issues. It utilises the trance state of hypnosis, which is a comfortable daydream state, to address problems, anxieties, habits and issues of self esteem and confidence. The therapy consists of either or both suggestion hypnotherapy and/or hypno-psychotherapy. Suggestion hypnotherapy is an approach utlising positive suggestion to resolve habits such as smoking, over eating, nail biting, increase motivation, etc.This is often complete in 1-4 sessions. Hypno-psychotherapy involves regression work and positive suggestion, to find and remove the deeper causes of your problems.
The process is usually complete in 6-12 sessions depending on the issues involved.
